Just like its classic counterpart, this black bean hummus mixes olive oil, garlic, tahini, and salt, but this is where things obtain a small different. We're using black beans instead of chickpeas and replacing the classic lemon with a lime and some southwestern spices.

  • black bean You have to commence with cooked black beans; Use a can or bake your own black beans. Stovetop or in Instant pot.
  • Tahini Along with nut butter, it's a must-have sesame paste in the health food section or in the international grocery section of your grocery store.
  • Lime- It adds a subtle flavor here, but you can replace it with lemon juice if you like.

Be sure to separate the liquid from the black beans or can of cooking liquid before you begin.

1. Mix liquids- In a 7-cup food processor with a steel S-blade, combine black beans (or cooking liquid), garlic, olive oil, tahini, lemon juice, cumin, ground coriander, salt, and 2 tablespoons of reserved cayenne pepper liquid. Blend for 1 minute on low speed until smooth and frothy.

NOTE- it Food processor I own and love it!

2. Add black beans– Put the black beans in the food processor. Mix on high speed for 1 minute, then scrape off the edges with a spatula. Blend for 1 more minute until smooth and creamy

NOTE- If you like hummus thinner you can add some extra black bean liquid (it leaves the can or cooking liquid)

3. Enjoy- Serve immediately or save for later.


FAQ

What Goes With Black Bean Hummus?

Really, pretty much anything that you can dip or dip in! Tortilla chips, crackers, vegetables, etc. It is also a delicious spread on a sandwich or wrap, and would even be great in a Buddha bowl or taco salad.

Can you freeze this recipe

YES. You can freeze it in a simple freezer bag or store it in an airtight food prep container (make sure it's freezer secure!).

How long does black bean hummus keep?

This recipe can be safely stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.

Can i do it in the blender?

I cognize some people have successfully used blenders to make hummus, but I haven't tried it. I'm guessing you need a high strength brand like Vitamix and you need to use the tamper to make sure all the ingredients are mixed properly.

1- homemade black beans can also be used; I measured 15 oz on a kitchen scale with a small amount of cooking liquid. If you're using homemade black beans, you don't need to puree the liquid with the other ingredients first; Simply put all the ingredients in the processor and mix.
