Perfect Instant Pot Lentils (red + green)


In this post, you will learn how to perfectly prepare Instant Pot lentils with red or green lentils. A great alternative to the pressure cooker.

The Instant Pot is a very useful device for cooking. chick-pea, black beans and Kidney beans from scratch, so it should arrive as no surprise that it's great for cooking lentils!

1. Prepare lenses- Weigh 1 pound of lentils (about 2 ¼ cups), then rinse in a colander to remove any residue. Put the lentils together with the water and salt in the stainless steel part of the Instant Pot.

2. Cooking Put the lid on the Instant Pot and set the valve to the "Seal" position. Pressure cook for 8 minutes at high pressure. When the Instant Pot beeps, allow 10 minutes of natural pressure relief before gently moving the steam release lever to the “Prime” position to release any residual pressure.

When the Instant Pot beeps, allow 5 minutes of natural pressure relief before gently moving the steam release lever to the “Prime” position to release any remaining pressure.

NOTE- Cook red lentils when the pan is pressurized and depressurized instead of high pressure.

FAQ

Which Instant Pot models can I use?

We tested both of them 6 liter instant pot and 8 liter instant pot and it worked great for both. If you're using a mini, you may have to cut the batch in half.

Can i cook half a batch?

Yes. Halve the amount of lentils, water and salt, keep the cooking times the same.

Do lentils need to be soaked in the Instant Pot before cooking?

No, these go straight in without getting wet.


Storage and preparation of meals

  • a refrigerator- Divide instant pot lentils into meal prep containers or jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze- Divide into glasses or containers suitable for the freezer and allow to cool completely. Freeze for up to 3 months
  • Warm-up Heat in a saucepan over medium heat until steamed; heat the items in the microwave until they evaporate; Green lentils are also served cold.
