Two things we absolutely love about deep fryer meatballs: 1) They cook very quickly: you can cook completely frozen meatballs in 7 minutes or less! 2) The texture is great: golden on the outside and slightly crispy on the inside but perfectly juicy on the inside.

These meatballs have become a staple of our meal preparation because my 7 year ancient loves to eat them for lunch at school!

Content notes

Necessary ingredients for fried meatballs
  • Ground beef– For juicy meatballs, select minced meat with a small fat content. You can also replace the ground beef with turkey. However, avoid lean mixes (labeled "extra lean" or "turkey breast") as they are not juicy.
  • Breadcrumbs– help tie the patties together; If you're low on carbohydrates, you can try replacing it with almond flour or skipping the breadcrumbs altogether.
  • Worcestershire– This enriches the meaty flavors in meatballs; Consist!
  • Egg- moisturizes and helps hold patties together; Egg substitute not tested

Step by step instructions

Meatball mix mixed together

1. Mix the ingredients Mix the ground beef, salt, starter, breadcrumbs and egg in a bowl. Use your hands or a spatula to blend until combined. Not too complicated.

Palm rolled meatballs

2. Meatballs – Use a 1 tablespoon measuring spoon or cookie spoon to measure servings, then roll your hands to form a ball.

Uncooked meatballs in the air fryer basket

3. Cooking Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes, then place the patties in the basket or tray.

Meatball tongs

4. Flip Cook for 3 minutes, then turn (or shake the basket a small). Bake for an additional 2 minutes or until the meatballs reach 150 ° F *.

* Cooking on the conveyor belt will raise the patties to 165 ° F. However, if you wait for that temperature in the fryer to reach that temperature, it will dry out.

Recipe tips

Turn or shake meatballs

In order to roast the meatballs perfectly on all sides, you should turn them halfway through the cooking time. Twist the meatballs with tongs or gently shake the basket.

Meatballs arrive out early.

I've found carrier cooking to be particularly powerful in an air fryer. If you're not careful, you can overcook some protein (air fryer salmon is an example). For this meatball, I suggest you cook it to 150 ° F and then take it out of the deep fryer.

You can abandon them in the basket or put them on a clean plate. They continue to cook gently for a few more minutes, raising them to 165 ° F.

Cooking frozen meatballs

Cooking frozen meatballs in the deep fryer is practical and simple! You can cook raw frozen meatballs or baked frozen meatballs – most commercial frozen meatballs are pre-cooked so just reheat them!

Here are the cooking times for frozen air fryer meatballs (1 tablespoon)

  • raw frozen meatballs 8 minutes at 400 ° F, turn / shake halfway
  • baked frozen meatballs 6-7 minutes * at 400 ° F, turn / shake halfway

* Give it a try and take it off when they turn beautifully red like the photo below.

Different models of air fryers

We made these patties in three different fryers including a basket-type air fryer (Cosori XL air fryer) and deep fryer (Instant Pot Vortex air fryer) and cooking times were very similar!

If using an oven deep fryer, be sure to rotate the top and bottom bowls (if there are 2 bowls) as you rotate / shake the patties.
