If you love tequila cocktails, these recipes cannot be missed. We also cover the origins of tequila, the different types, and much more!

What is tequila? Delicious nectar that has been blessed from heaven? Or is it a distilled spirit that comes from the blue agave plant?

We bet on the latter, but we wouldn't be surprised if the tequila gods came to earth and offered us the top tequila cocktails.

Because if we had one thing in common, it would be our love for the precious blue agave plant in all its intoxicating splendor!

What is tequila?

The blue agave plantThe tequila cocktail, which grows in the Mexican state of Jalisco, marks its origin. Some other communities that contain this scarce and valuable plant conclude the following states:

  • Guanajuato
  • Michoacan
  • Nayarit
  • Tamaulipas

It takes at least 6 years for the agave plant to mature. However, in some places – in the highlands – the blue agave can take up to 12 years to ripen.

Tequila types

Three types of tequila make up the majority of tequila distributions. However, there are two less common varieties for the bolder tequila connoisseur.

  1. Blanco – 100% blue agave
  2. Tequila Joven – Some Aged Tequila + Unaged Tequila Mixture
  3. Reposado – at the age of two months to a year
  4. Añejo – At least one year ancient
  5. Extra Añejo – The rarest tequila. At least 3 years ancient
