Today I'm going to share my favorite recipe for baked ziti with cheese, which is made at home at least once a month. It's been a staple in my family for as long as I can remember. As a small girl, I loved helping my mom cook dinner, especially when there is something I look forward to while eating. I still remember pulling a stool and stirring ziti noodles.

It's also a great meal for someone who has a modern baby or is sick. I like to buy foil pans at the dollar store and stuff the noodles into them. The food is great before dinner! It tastes good too garlic bread or zwieback and a chopped lettuce. 🙂 Super yummy!

materials

  • noodle: Ziti pasta is the classic pasta that you can use, but you can also beat other types of pasta such as rigatoni or penne.
  • cheese: The recipe calls for freshly grated mozzarella cheese, but don't be afraid to commute up your ingredients like parmesan or provolone.
  • Tomato based products: A 26-ounce glass of spaghetti sauce along with a can of chopped tomatoes, or Marinara sauce.
  • sour cream: I love the extra creaminess that sour cream gives Ziti. It takes this recipe from head to toe!
  • fleshYou can use half a kilo of meat of your choice. I like to use ground beef or Italian sausage.
  • Flavors and spicesThere are many different flavors and spices that give this dish a great taste. You will need onion, garlic, fresh basil, thyme, salt and pepper.

  1. BROWN. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat and add the onion and garlic. Fry for 3-5 minutes, then add the hamburger and cook until brown.
  2. BOIL. While the meat is being fried, cook the pasta and drain according to the directions in the package.
  3. DECOCTION. After the meat is browned, mix it with the tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, salt, black pepper, thyme and basil. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
  4. COMBINE. Add sour cream and vermicelli and mix. Then pour half of the mixture into a 9 × 13 greased pan and pour half of the cheese on top. Pour the rest of the pasta mixture over the top and sprinkle over the rest of the cheese.
  5. TO BAKE. Bake at 350 ° F for 20-25 minutes until the cheese melts and foams. If you want, add fresh basil or parsley.

Cooking tips + types

  • Noodle. Ziti noodles work top because they are wider and the ends of the noodles are cut straight. This makes them a great container for sauce. You can also use other types of pasta such as penne, rigatoni, rotini, fusilli, and farfalle.
  • Spice up. Feel free to add some chili pepper to warm up the plate a small.
  • Cheese. Grate your own mozzarella! Freshly grated cheese melts path better than pre-shredded bags and it makes all the difference!
  • Layer. Combine the ziti in layers so that macaroni and grated cheese arrive with every bite!
  • Italian cheese. You can use a ricotta filling instead of adding sour cream. Classic lasagna. Pour the pasta mixture into the plate, add the ricotta filling, pour in the remaining pasta and cover with mozzarella.
  • Cover the pasta. You don't have to cover the noodles while they cook. It is cooked in the oven for 20-25 minutes until it bubbled. Cover only when reheating or boiling the baked Zit that you have frozen.

Presetting, freezing + warming up

  • Provisionally: To do it in advance, just assemble it, cover it with foil, and put it in the refrigerator. The dish is kept in the refrigerator for about 2 days. When you're done baking, remove the foil and bake at 350 ° F for 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Freeze: Place half of the pasta mixture in an 8 × 8 pan, add cheese, and cover with foil. Then put the pan in a zippered bag and freeze. When you're alert to cook, take it out of the freezer and thaw in the refrigerator for 1 hour or overnight. Preheat the oven and cook covered for 35-45 minutes.
  • Warm up the rest: Cover it loosely with foil and bake at 350 ° F until completely heated. The foil prevents your Ziti from drying out. I noticed that it takes about 15 minutes to fully heat up.
