How to Make Instant Pot Meatballs

  1. Preparation. Add water, potatoes and coasters to the Instant Pot. Stack two large pieces of aluminum foil on top of each other. Put aside.
  2. Mix and shape. In a large bowl, add the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic and onion powder, balsamic vinegar, thyme, basil, salt and pepper. Mix with your hands until well mixed, place on foil and shape into round patties. Fold the foil into a long-walled bowl.
  3. Immediately cook in the pot. Place the bowl of meatballs on the tinplate, close the lid, close the valve and cook under high pressure for 27 minutes.
  4. Relieve the pressure and remove the meatballs. After the cooking time is up, wait 10 minutes and then turn the valve to ventilation. Make sure the meatballs are cooked to 160 degrees F. Then carefully take the bowl onto a large plate with oven gloves. Transfer the patties to a cutting board with a spatula and discard the drip wrap.
  5. Glaze and porridge. Brush the meatballs with ketchup. Take the coaster out of the finished pan and add the butter, milk, salt and pepper. Grind the potatoes with a masher, but do not overmix.
  6. Service. Cut the meatballs into slices and serve hot with mashed potatoes.

Cooking tips and varieties

  • Worcester sauce. Replace balsamic vinegar with the same amount of Worcestershire sauce if that's your usual meatball addition.
  • It replaces breadcrumbs. You can use an equal amount of oatmeal to make the meatballs healthier. Whole grain bread crumbs also add fiber and nutrients.
  • Lean poultry. Ground turkey works and is as soft as it is steamy that it will obtain pinched when cooked.
  • Number. It is important to shape the meatballs round and relatively flat to ensure they cook evenly.
  • Do not ventilate immediately. Wait 10 minutes before releasing the pressure to allow the meat to terminate cooking and retain moisture.
  • Use a meat thermometer. The dumplings are alert when placed in the middle and the thermometer will read 160 ° F. When it's around 150-155 ° F, close the lid again and let sit for 5-10 minutes to terminate cooking.
  • Cooking without potatoes. If you follow the recipe, you can cook the meatballs on a plate without potatoes. Keep 1 glass of water and the same cooking time.

You can easily prepare meatballs and potatoes for a boil, then keep them warm until served. Here's how:

  1. Place the diced potatoes in a bowl and cover with cold water to avoid browning. Shape the patties in a tin bowl and cover tightly with an additional piece of foil. Chill overnight.
