Creamy instant steel oats in a pot


This instant pot steel cut oatmeal is alert in less time than the stove. It's perfectly creamy, nutritious and simple to customize with your favorite toppings. With just four simple ingredients, you can enjoy a simple breakfast to warm up throughout the week.

Instant Pot changed my way of cooking. Materials like Spaghetti pumpkin or chick-peaCooking usually takes longer, now it's fast and simple. The same applies to steel-cut oats: do not babysit the pot anymore, make sure that it does not stick to the bottom of the pot. Perfect instant pot steel cut oats every time!

No emotional oatmeal here! Both creamy and lightly chewed steel-cut oats convinced me that I was actually oatmeal. In fact, I do this recipe weekly (sometimes twice!).

With a light walnut flavor that uses cinnamon, vanilla and maple syrup, this recipe can be customized in about a million ways (find 7 Steel cut oat flavor here!)

The pressure cooker makes cutting steel oats fast and simple, possibly using the ingredients you have. It is very simple to do this while holding a baby in my hand (I can tell from experience) and they can be kept in the fridge or freezer. Basically, this recipe will be your breakfast superhero.

What is steel oat?

Steel-cut oats arrive very close to the naturally harvested oat grain and are cut into 2-3 pieces with a steel knife. Compare this to steamed oats and then flat oatmeal.

Because they're thicker than oatmeal, steel oats take longer to cook than oatmeal, but you'll be rewarded for your efforts with a delicious, chewy texture.

In addition, steel cutting oats is one low glycemic indexThat means they release sugar into your bloodstream more slowly because they digest more slowly. Translation? Steel-cut oats tend to fill you up longer and are less likely to raise your blood sugar level.

How to cook instant pot steel cut oats

Note that toasting step (1-3) is optional and can be skipped for fast preparation.

  1. Using the roasting function, melt a tablespoon of butter in the instant cup.
  2. Add oats, then fry for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Steel-cut oats when they turn golden and give off a smell of walnuts.
  4. Add water.
  5. Add cinnamon.
  6. Add vanilla.
  7. Cook for 2 minutes at high pressure, then give complete natural pressure relief (20-25 minutes).

Fry or don't fry

If you take the time to fry your oats before cooking, you will be rewarded with a deeper and more delicious taste. I will be honest and usually say that I skipped this step in favor of simple preparation, but on scarce occasions when I took the time I was very happy with the taste.

To fry your oats, melt a tablespoon of butter or coconut oil using the Sautee function in Instant Pot. Add your oats and fry for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Oats are fried when they are golden and you can obtain a delicious taste. At this point, turn off the Sautee feature and add your other ingredients.

Water prices

When we bake steel-cut oats on the stove, we usually use the ratio of 1 cup of steel-cut oats: 4 cups of water. As the oats cook, some of this liquid evaporates, leaving thick and creamy oatmeal flour. There is no evaporation when cooking with full natural pressure relief in the instant pot, so we use 1 cup of cut steel oat ratio: 3 cups of water.

cooking time

I played with this recipe from 1 minute cooking time to 12 minutes and frankly for this recipe? It is very forgiving. Even after 12 minutes, oats can be creamy + tough and not emotional.

Here are the settlements:

  • 2 minutes of high pressure (it takes about 15 minutes to reach pressure) + full natural pressure relief (25-30 minutes)

The key is to let the pressure release naturally (i.e. not touching the finished pot until the pen falls off by itself) so that the steel-cut oatmeal has time to absorb the liquid and to be kind and creamy will.

IMPORTANT When you open the instant pot for the first time after a complete natural pressure release, oats appear too liquid and too soupy (see picture below). After the oats have cooled, they thicken to a great, creamy texture.

Steel-cut oats are cooked the first time the lid (1) is removed, but they harden when they cool down and become thicker (2).

Adjust chewing

If you want to play with different chewing levels, add or remove time from the natural pressure relief (if we let the pot sit until the pen falls off after the beep sounds from the pot).

  1. Oat cream Pressure cooking for 2 minutes with full natural pressure relief (25-30 minutes)
  2. Chew oats– 2 minutes of fast cooking with 15 minutes of pressure relief

Double

As written, this recipe makes 4 servings of steel-cut oats, but you can easily double this with the same cooking time. A good rule of thumb with instant pot is to fill no more than half.

I made this recipe in 6 and 8 liter instant pots.

Preparation for a simple breakfast

Instant pot steel cut oats SO PERFECT for food preparation! Chewing oats is kept in the fridge or freezer for days / weeks / months.

How to store your steel oats:

  • Place in portioned food preparation containers in the refrigerator and store for up to 4 days
  • Freezer – freeze in food preparation containers OR portion muffin cans and pour into a freezer bag

To warm up:

  1. thaw completely (if frozen)
  2. Heat in the microwave until it evaporates
  3. Add a dash or almond milk or your favorite milk to loosen up oats
  4. Add maple syrup, peanut butter, or your favorite sauces
  5. mix and enjoy!

Variations

With a few essays, you can give these steel-cut oats a lot of flavor. To add thick liquids like oatmeal or pumpkin puree, wait until the oat is fully cooked, as this can lead to terrible burn warnings.

  • Apple Cinnamon– add 2-3 chopped apples to cook with steel-cut oats; Feel free to increase your cinnamon as needed
  • pumpkin– 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground coconut, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1 cup of pumpkin puree at the end of the cooking time.
  • peanut butter– After cooking, mix 2-4 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • chocolate– add 1-2 tablespoons of cocoa powder before cooking; Serve with mini chocolate chips
  • Citrus: add a small citrus flavor – you can do this before cooking, so mix oats with tons of citrus flavors
  • Change fruit; add some apples, pears, kiwi, bananas, everything you can really think of!

  • 1 Cup Steel cut oats
  • 3rd cups water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1.2 teaspoon cinnamon

After cooking

  • 2nd tablespoon Maple syrup (or honey)
  • Put all the ingredients in the inside of a cookware.

  • Put the cap on, set the valve to "closed" and cook under pressure (high pressure) for 2 minutes. The printing process takes 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Release the pressure naturally (snap the instant pot until the pen falls off). This takes about 25-30 minutes (see notes *)

  • Stir maple syrup, then serve or portion.

  • Steel-cut oats can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

  • Warm up in the microwave until the heat has evaporated. Mix almond or milk milk and mix to dissolve oats. Fill with syrup, strawberries, hazelnut paste or your favorite sauces.

  • Dondurmak- You can freeze them directly in food preparation containers (make sure everything is cool before putting them in the freezer) or in the donut dishes before you take them out and put them in the freezer bags.

* When chewing oats, try relieving pressure after 15 minutes of natural pressure relief. ** This recipe can be doubled and fits in a 6 or 8 liter instant crucible. Variations
