This beach house was designed by Holy Olson Kundig Architects It is located on Canada's west coast, Tofino, a small area on Vancouver Island. This 2,500-square-foot beach house is surrounded by a weatherproof forest and creates a connection between the drama of the nearby ocean and the feeling of refuge from the trees.

This residence, which is essentially a large area, is filled with natural light to the sea on the south side, while being isolated and protected on the other side. Large glass walls open the living area with a panoramic view of the forest and the sea, while two fireplace areas anchor at opposite ends and convey a feeling of asylum.

If you turn the house from its base, ferns and beach salami can grow under the glass floor that runs around the main room, giving a floating feeling over the forest floor.

The warm, natural tones of the interior are inspired by the Tofino coastal forest and littered with pieces from the owner's contemporary art collection. The fireplace walls, which were specially designed for the paintings by Sam Francis and Diego Singh, were incorporated into the design of the house.

A collection of pieces of furniture was specially designed for this house by architect Jim Olson. This includes a walnut sofa in the stove that complements the interior.

“The focus was not on capturing a single point of view, but on capturing a panoramic view of the ocean. The roof is held by two fireplaces on either side of the living area, which gives the roof a floating feel. There are no pillars or interior building systems that hide the panoramic view. Instead, you feel like you are in a large open space with two cozy campfires on both ends, ”explains architect Jim Olson.

What we love: This beach house offers a quiet solitude to enjoy both the forest and the beach through the glass walls. These large panoramic windows not only frame the view, but also let the sunlight soak up the interior with natural light. A neutral palette provides the host with the great backdrop for contemporary art and gives him a small personality. We think this will be a fabulous home to make everything of it!

Tell us: Do you find the architecture of this house inspiring? If so, why are you in the most inspiring elements and comments!
