Four-garden house by Draftworks Architects

Design architects He designed the house with four gardens in Nicosia, Cyprus. This modern residence has approximately 2,000 square meters of living space in a contemporary style with exposed concrete and bricks. However, the main inspiration for the design came from traditional architecture in the Nicosia region, where a secret garden as part of the interior is invaluable.

“In addition to aphids and grasshoppers, spider mites, tiger moths, aphids, miners, moles and hoverflies as well as the praying mantis that destroyed them all. In this astonishing garden we will share the leaves, the leaves, the sky, both them and the temporary ones. NICOSSIENSES, Niki Marangou.

The idea of a closed or "secret" garden as part of the living space can be found in traditional architecture in Cyprus and Nicosia, where the private house was specifically commissioned. The garden traditionally acted as an incubator for natural matter and fed the “unofficial” part of inner life.

From the 14th century, historical references by foreign travelers to Nicosia defined the garden as an area surrounded by a high wall and containing many ornamental and fruitful plants. While it is defined as an important part of domestic life and offers pleasant scents and sounds, it also creates the city's historical urban identity.

For this project, the inner garden becomes part of domestic life and is closely connected to everyday life. A box of 16 x 16 x 5 meters contains the necessary living space for everyday life. At the same time, the box contains four small garden-shaped pieces of nature that are equally important as a departure from everyday family life. The 4 indoor gardens also serve as an incubator to breed and test the species in the local climate.

For the construction we used simple materials that were manufactured by the local industry, such as. B. Concrete wall units (CMU) and breeze stones like white concrete units. Wood and metalwork is done by local artisans.
