Butler Armsden Architects together Luxury building Located in the Sea Cliff region of San Francisco, California, this Mediterranean-style 1924 Mediterranean Revival townhouse has been renovated. The project team faced a unique dilemma: it created a home that feels like a beach vacation in the city.

This 4,500-square-foot home offers sweeping views of the Golden Gate and Marin Headlands. However, it is in a neighborhood where you can easily drive to the city middle or the peninsula. The architect's approach was to blur the distinction between work and vacation, city and country, and to bring them all together in a comfortable residence.

The facade was mainly kept intact to preserve the aesthetics of the neighborhood; However, a pool with a modern lawn in the back yard was set up as a larger terrace with a spa and a playground for the host's two small children. The current floor plan was quite traditional and less than the optimal use of space.

Unnecessary sections in the main section have been removed to create a modern and open-plan layout that includes kitchen, dining, and living room areas. A full glass window facing north has been added to enhance the lovely view. Crown and base strips have been replaced by simple details on window and door openings.

Large, planned oak floors were laid in accordance with the coastal directive. All built-in cupboards are designed in such a way that they correspond to the contemporary sensations that arise when the floor plan is opened. A versatile palette area with occasionally bright colors and unusual furniture options enlivens the feeling of being at home.

What we love: This Mediterranean-style house offers a bright and colorful space to enjoy urban life and feel like you are on the beach. We love the pop of colors, the stylish furniture, the accessories and the inviting atmosphere. Large windows propose views of the Pacific and the Golden Gate Bridge.
