Rejen House by EKAR

ekar designed a sumptuous contemporary residence to suit the modern lifestyle of large families. Thailand is located in Bangkok's Hwaeng district and has more than 18,500 square meters of living space. This residence has the space you want for a modern residence, but they feel that their clients are adapting to all their families and do not feel overwhelmed, reach their goals, and then want some.

ReGEN House – a home where every generation can live together.

Begin:

After our client lived with his family, he moved into his own house opposite his family. The first intention of our client was to renovate the current house, which is suitable for her firstborn daughter Meena. After completion of the construction drawing, however, our customer has changed his mind. It is not pleasant when it comes to living independently of your experiences and your parents. Being a modern parent really makes our client think about her daughter and her future. In an effort to create a place where he could live with his child Meena until his own family lived, he bought another land opposite his home and next to his parents' home.

Traditional and modern context:

Long before Bangkok was founded, the Thai people lived in a large family of grandparents, father, mother and children (sometimes uncle and aunts). Thailand's lifestyle has influenced Thailand's architectural design. In general, a traditional Thai house is made up of several small family houses where every small family lives, and a terrace that connects every family in the middle. The house stands on masts, which create a high clearance under the house, which allows a good wind flow and lowers the inside temperature. Protect the inhabitants from flooding and wild animals. Therefore, this ground floor is usually used for parking and storage purposes. The residential area is on the first floor of the house where life began. The initiative aims to develop the quality of life and the family relationship; In the meantime, people still have their own privacy.

However, the modern context is full of complexity that complicates the life of the Thai people. Land prices force people to live outside their families. Modern people usually move to small apartments near workplaces or to very small family homes outside the city, where land prices are still affordable. The question is, is it possible to build a modern Thai house with the comfort of traditional Thai houses?

Perception of the family country and architectural practice:
The property is located on a street corner and next to the house of the customer family. With an area of 640 square meters, the architect has adopted the concept of traditional Thai architecture to maximize this limited space. Forming an L-shaped building, removing all living areas to the upper floors; Leave the ground floor empty to park and park 10 cars. The wall between the parental home and the modern home is removed and the existing home is planted with a large modern garden to ensure the uniformity of the area.

At the customer's request, the architects separated the floor plans of the four-storey house. The second floor is for the client's family and the third floor is for the daughter's future family. Therefore, the first floor is a central point to bring together all family members (and their daughter's future family). This floor has an entertainment room and a large terrace that becomes the common room for the client's (and future family's) family. In addition, this floor is inspired by a traditional floor level where natural elements are closely linked. From the pool on the same floor, the elevated courtyard at the top of the pool reflects a sense of the river. The space between the swimming pool and the elevated courtyard leaves a tree through the ground floor. Let it flow in the sunlight in a glass villa (garden villa). On the large terrace, the user's view of the pool, the raised garden, the treetop (grown on the ground floor), the garden of the existing parents or the home is addressed.

The aim is for our customers to feel close to their parents. Meena is on a floor and watches as this large veranda runs around. The east side of the country is opposite the eight-storey commercial apartment. Therefore, architects hide the house on this side and abandon a minimum number of windows or rooms free, to avoid disturbing viewing angles and to protect the inhabitants from prying eyes. Back on the ground floor is located on the east side of a main entrance made of solid wood. On the first floor there are floor-to-ceiling wood-grilled windows on the same side that can be opened and closed for ventilation if privacy is required. In terms of material selection, each floor of the ReGEN house contains different materials such as wood, textured stone walls and stone-like tiles. This combination of materials creates a unique structure for the façade that nevertheless meets the environmental conditions.
